The World Is Fun invites you to Beard & Stache Fest’s Mustache Movie Sunday at Central Cinema.  Join us for an evening of generally reveling in the glory that is facial hair.  Central Cinema has combed the globe for the best short films exploring the enticing world of facial hair.  From small town Texans, to world-class high-stakes competitors, to public access call-in shows: beard fanatics are everywhere!

SPLITTING HAIRS (26 mins)       Watch Trailer
Facial hair championships began 30 years ago in the Black Forest of Germany. "Beard Clubs" organized social gatherings that gradually became competitive and the championships drew competitors from across Europe. Now, American rivals Bruce Roe (Whisker Club[and Beard & Stache Fest Contestant]) and Phil Olsen (Beard Team, USA) and Gary Johnson (a Washington native competing on his own) travel to Berlin to face a gauntlet of the best beards and moustaches in the world. There is no lack of bravado on display. As one competitor exclaims, "I am to the World Beard and Moustache Championships what Pope John Paul II was to the fall of Communism." (director F. Stone Roberts)

GROWIN A BEARD (30 min)       Watch Trailer
Journey to the small town of Shamrock, Texas. Since 1938, it's been a tradition in Shamrock to grow a beard from New Year's Day to St. Patrick's Day. But not just any beard - a Donegal beard. A Donegal grows along the jowl and chin with no moustache - like the Amish or the Leprechaun's. Then, right before the big St Patrick's Day Parade, they face-off on Main Street. The competition is fierce. There is Richard Smith who only enters every 10 years - and wind each time. Bill Howe takes pills that turn his beard green. And then there is dark horse Scotty McAfee, the lone outsider who dares to take on the locals. (director Mike Woolf)

THE SECRET LIFE OF BEARDS (6 min)
From shear laziness to sex appeal, religious conviction to saving on razors, there are all sorts of reasons for growing a beard. Admire the unique plumage on these fascinating documentary subjects. (director Melanie Levy)

BEARD CLUB (excerpt) (10 min)       Watch Trailer
Almost every man has a beard or mustache story. Each day, every man must decide either to shave or not to shave. Beard Club talks to men from different regions, religious backgrounds, and age groups in an effort to reveal the hidden meanings behind the fashion. (dir Laura Lukitsch)

TALKIN' BEARDS (5 min)
Nick Prueher of the Found Footage Festival presents the cable access talk show "Talkin' Beards", in which he brings together bearded men from all walks of life to discuss suppleness, soup eating, soul patches, and trimming techniques. With special guest Chris Elliott.

This line up of beard and mustache-centric short films is sure to satiate all of your beardy desires (whatever that means.)  Seriously, it’s going to be fun – you should come.  Bring a date, bring $8 dollars to get in, and bring your appetite – Central Cinema has some darn tasty food and drinks.  Oh yeah, the best part is that the proceeds benefit Treehouse and the foster kids of King County.
